What can fMRI tell us about functional variability in the oculomotor system and saccade 1 performance ? 2 Jason

چکیده
45 Eye movement behaviour is variable and the brain’s oculomotor circuitry may not always 46 function consistently. In a recent fMRI study, Ozyurt and Greenlee (2011) correlated the 47 activation strength of cortical and striatal brain regions with interand intra-individual variability 48 in saccade performance. We discuss the design and implications of this study with regard to the 49 differences between interand intra-individual variability, and the link between the BOLD signal 50 and oculomotor activity. 51

متن کاملWhat do eye movements tell us about patients with neurological disorders? — An introduction to saccade recording in the clinical setting —
Non-invasive and readily implemented in the clinical setting, eye movement studies have been conducted extensively not only in healthy human subjects but also in patients with neurological disorders. The purpose of saccade studies is to "read out" the pathophysiology underlying neurological disorders from the saccade records, referring to known primate physiology. In the current review, we prov...

متن کاملWhat does fMRI tell us about neuronal activity?
In recent years, cognitive neuroscientists have taken great advantage of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) as a non-invasive method of measuring neuronal activity in the human brain. But what exactly does fMRI tell us? We know that its signals arise from changes in local haemodynamics that, in turn, result from alterations in neuronal activity, but exactly how neuronal activity, haem...
